CONTRACK with the Green Railway Award!

18.11.2024

The Green Railway Awards are now a permanent fixture at the Railway Congress, the latest edition of which we attended on November 14, 2024. Each year, the award recognizes companies and individuals who have particularly distinguished themselves through their efforts to move the rail industry toward ecology. During the 15th edition of the Congress, CONTRACK technology was among the winners.

Green prefabrication of rail infrastructure?

The first eco-effects of using CONTRACK technology can be seen already at the planning stage: factory conditions, among other things, allow for the accurate prediction of material demand (without leaving excessive waste typical of construction conditions) and limiting the mileage performed by material suppliers.

"With CONTRACK technology, we can choose a local concrete mix supplier, located just a few kilometers from the factory. This means that mix trucks don't have to spend weeks circulating through city centers, slowing down already congested traffic, just to apply subsequent layers of pavement. Even at this stage, we're reducing social costs and exhaust emissions," says Grzegorz Leszczyński, President of KZN Contrack.

Fast construction means lower social costs

The social costs of developing key infrastructure are borne by both residents and city managers. These include the need to organize detours and alternative transportation, disruptions to deliveries to businesses and institutions, and economic costs. Residents often forgo public transportation during disruptions, losing hours in traffic jams, and are exposed to long-term increased emissions not only of CO2 but also of noise.

"CONTRACK precast elements are a finished product that, once delivered to site, can be installed even on a weekend – within 72 hours. This eliminates, among other things, the problem of prolonged traffic disruptions, especially at intersections between tram and car traffic. Furthermore, CONTRACK allows for the replacement of steel sections without damaging the concrete surface – previously, renovations required repeated concrete layers that lasted several weeks. Therefore, we utilize the produced surface to its full potential," adds Grzegorz Leszczyński.

For years, the Railway Congress has been a key event in the Polish rail industry. It brings together representatives and experts from leading companies, the media, and politicians responsible for the future of infrastructure. It provides an opportunity to review the industry and its ongoing changes, while also setting future directions for development.

"We're delighted that our technology has been recognized at such an important event as the Railway Congress. We're grateful for the award, and we believe that CONTRACK's presentation will redefine environmental thinking in the rail infrastructure industry," concludes the president of KZN Contrack.
