We have the Nowkuński Award!
Innovative technology for prefabricating turnouts, crossings, arch plates, and entire tram junctions received an award in the Józef Nowkuński competition at TRAKO 2023. The exhibition at the KZN Bieżanów Group's outdoor stand, showcasing a prefabricated tram turnout, attracted crowds of interested people.

The award was presented to representatives of the KZN Bieżanów Group for developing CONTRACK, a comprehensive technology for prefabricating tram track structures. This innovative product integrates three basic track elements: a steel tram track structure, prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs with rail channels, and a polyurethane material for continuous, resilient rail fastening.

The new solution significantly shortens the installation time of the most complex tram track structures – moving the most time-consuming production phase to the manufacturer's facilities allows for prefabricated assembly even on weekends (72 hours). The competition jury also appreciated the potential for reducing the social costs generated during construction or track repairs – road managers can significantly reduce disruptive traffic changes, the need to organize alternative transportation, and avoid endless traffic jams. CONTRACK also means higher initial product quality, better control of life-cycle costs (LCC), and the ability to replace the steel portion of the track system without dismantling the concrete layer.
During the TRAKO trade fair, the KZN Bieżanów Group also spoke about the first prototype installation of a prefabricated tram turnout using CONTRACK technology, which took place this year in Bytom. Based on the experience gained, they also announce the introduction of prefabricated crossing and curved slabs. "We took a comprehensive approach to CONTRACK technology. Drawing on KZN Bieżanów's experience in the prefabrication of railway turnouts and the production of tram turnouts, as well as KZN Rail's experience in the installation and transport of these structures, we developed a technology encompassing production, logistics using a dedicated PWP Gantry system, installation, and product maintenance, including the option of replacing the steel section of the turnout itself."
"Receiving the Józef Nowkuński Award further motivates us to further develop our technology," says Grzegorz Leszczyński, vice president of the KZN Bieżanów Group.
