Concrete turnout slabs

Prefabricated tram turnouts are always individually designed in accordance with the specific requirements of a given project. These are advanced prefabricated elements integrated with the steel structure of tram turnouts using a fast-curing polyurethane material for continuous elastic rail fastening. The turnouts are delivered to the construction site in the form of large-format slabs, ready for fast and precise installation.

Dedicated Design

CONTRACK turnout slabs combine a reinforced concrete structure with track components into a single, integrated prefabricated unit, prepared for direct installation on site. The key element is large-format reinforced concrete slabs, designed with all necessary channels and connections to ensure efficient, long-term, and failure-free operation of the turnout.

The use of prefabrication enables precise reproduction of turnout geometry and accurate positioning of rails and system components already at the production stage.

Three types of reinforcement can be applied:

  • traditional

  • hybrid

  • composite

A refined reinforcement system and strengthening of rail channels, combined with the use of appropriate concrete, make it possible to:

  • install and connect tram switch drives

  • install and connect electric switch heating systems

  • integrate drainage boxes with water discharge channels

  • carry out inspections of both the prefabricated element and the above components throughout the entire service life, without interfering with the reinforced concrete structure of the slab

The technology of constructing reinforced concrete slabs and the rail channels embedded within them enables efficient maintenance operations, including the replacement of worn steel track structures with new ones — without damaging the slab structure.

Durability and Initial Quality

For non-standard road–tram configurations, we use enhanced concrete mixes and individually designed reinforcement tailored to local conditions. This ensures high initial quality and durability of the prefabricated elements. Combined with the ability to replace all components embedded in the turnout slabs (e.g., lubricators) at any stage of operation, this enables many years of use with virtually no impact on crossing users.
